Dr. Anura Ekanayake is a Past Chairman of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and of the Industrial Association of Sri Lanka. He is currently the Chairman of Wealth Trust Securities Limited and Lanka Commodity Brokers Limited. He serves on the Boards of several other companies. These businesses range from finance to agriculture, retail trade, industry and exports. During a professional career spanning three and a half decades, he has held senior positions in both the public sector as well as the private sector. His positions in the public sector included those of Senior Economist of Mahaweli Authority, Director of Planning of Ministry of Plantation Industries and that of Director General Public Administration. During his public sector tenure he also held the position of Chairman Plantation Housing and Social Welfare Trust and a number of other Board positions including those of the Sri Lanka State Plantations Corporation, Janatha Estates Development Board, 23 Regional Plantation Companies, e Tea Research Institute and the Post Graduate Institute of Agriculture of University of Peradeniya. He served as the Chairman of the International Natural Rubber Council, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for a two year period.
He holds a B.A. (Econ) Hons. and M.Sc. (Agric) degrees from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka and Ph.D. (Econ) from Australian National University where he studied
under a Colombo Plan scholarship. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Certified Professional Managers, Sri Lanka.
